9 Questions With Design Consultant, Elizabeth

We sat down with Elizabeth, a wedding design consultant, to learn about how she works with clients, what’s inspiring her, and the dream project that’s on her current roster.

Q: Should a client bring in inspiration?

E: Yes! Bring in photos from as many angles as possible! A Pinterest board or a folder of photos on your phone, that you can email us ahead of time, is super helpful.

Q: Is it helpful to have an idea of preferred cuts, stones, or metals?

E: It’s helpful to have an idea of shape, metal, and general design, but not necessary if coming in for an initial shopping appointment. Budget is also helpful, so we can guide your expectations appropriately and source options you’ll love within your budget.

Q: What do you cover in an initial appointment?

E: We’ll have sample rings for you to try on and do a diamond education so you can learn more about the 4C’s, and what will be realistic within your budget. We will also talk about different setting styles and what is practical for both your lifestyle, and your personal style.

Q: Do you usually work with both people in the couple?

E: It’s totally a mix! As the person proposing, you have to know your partner. Are they the kind of person who is going to want to be involved from start to finish, or would they prefer a surprise? There’s no right or wrong answer, just make sure one way or another you have a general idea of what your partner wants so you know they will love it!

Q: How much should a future wedding band matter when working on an engagement ring?

E: It’s helpful to think broadly about whether or not you want your future wedding band to stack perfectly flush with your engagement ring, or if you’re ok with there being a bit of negative space.

Q: How collaborative is the process typically?

E: It depends! If you want a very classic ring, we will make it a quick and easy design review. If you want something more unique but don’t know how to do that, we will work with you and understand your style and come up with something you’ll love together.

Q: What trends are you seeing right now?

E: Elongated diamond shapes are definitely the preference right now, especially elongated cushions. We still get requests for both natural and lab grown, but I’m seeing more and more people interested in warmer, natural diamonds, which I love. People are also veering away from super dainty settings and going for something more substantial.

Q: What’s been your favorite project in recent memory?

E: How can I choose!? I recently worked with my colleague on a custom push-present, which was full circle because, before she started working at LP, her husband was my first engagement ring sale years ago! Getting to do their engagement ring and then another custom ring to celebrate the birth of their daughter was very special.

Q: What is your dream project?

E: I have an engagement ring in the works right now that is pretty much the exact setting I would choose if I were to redesign my ring one day. Going to keep that a secret since it's obviously still in the works, but it's a natural elongated cushion stunner, so keep your eyes peeled on our IG!
