Recently I embarked on a trip to New York City to attend the much-anticipated JA New York Summer Trade Show, where retailers and exhibitors from all over the world come together in the Big Apple to network, gain industry insights, and buy in to the finest jewelry from prominent brands. While I was there, I had the pleasure of connecting with some amazing jewelry experts, and the opportunity to take in new industry techniques and strategies.

I couldn’t get enough of the breathtaking jewelry pieces being exhibited at the show! There were some truly astounding pieces. While browsing, I noticed a couple trends surfacing the jewelry making realm. Here are my top favorites!

Blackened Metal

Edgy blackened metals continue to shine.  Designers are increasingly using black rhodium in not just fashion pieces, but bridal as well.  I love mixing classic bands with a few blackened pieces.

Facetime

There was a noticeable theme booth after booth - engraved, cast, and intaglio faces on precious jewels.  Some of my favorite pieces came from the talented Hannah Blount.  With iterations in gold, silver, diamonds, and varying widths, her pieces are just asking to be purchased for everyone in your family.

Feminine Colors

Summer might be leading into fall, but the gemstones at JA New York tell a different story!  There was no shortage of pretty pink and purple pieces with big bauble gemstones.  Even better were the many pink and purple flowers, butterflies, and bows.  Unabashed girliness is back.

Mix ‘n’ Match

As a custom engagement ring designer, I know how meaningful it can be to customize your jewelry.  That’s why I love the trend of mix ‘n’ match jewelry.  From studs sold in singles so that you can make your own set, to Erica Molinari charms just asking to be piled on, don’t settle for jewelry straight out of the box.  Make it your own.

Updated Pearls

Will pearls ever go out of style? Probably not. But pearls are now being incorporated into fresh, new concepts in jewelry making. These aren’t your mother’s pearls.  The new designs aren’t just for weddings and special occasions – they can rock the workplace and a night out on the town too!

There were tons of interesting designs and innovative concepts debuted in collections across all of the brands who showcased at JANY Summer 2016. Which of these trends catches your eye the most?
